Composite veneers involve full or partial facings of teeth that, when properly done, can enhance the beauty of your smile by changing the shape and color of teeth. Veneers are opted to cosmetically treat badly stained/ discoloured/ misshaped teeth. Veneers can also be used in mild misalignment like small spacing, mild rotations or minor crowding, especially if the patient is not keen on straightening teeth with orthodontics.
With advancement in dental technology, Health Precinct invests in the latest esthetic nano-composites that have better adhesion and looks natural. With minimal/ no tooth removal, composite veneers rank themselves the most conservative veneer option. Composite veneers can be completed in one appointment and is done directly in the mouth.
As there is minimal/ no tooth removal, usually people do not opt for a local anesthetic. Stains are removed with either a special hand piece or an air abrasive to expose natural clean tooth surface. Isolation is required to keep the tooth dry and clean from contamination. A rubber dam might be required in some cases. The tooth surface is then chemically treated with an etchant to improve adhesion bond strength. Desired shade of composite is then used to build the face of the tooth to a cosmetically pleasing shape and cured with blue light. Veneer is then shaped to define micro-esthetic characters and polished.
Composite veneers are known to last for 3-5 years and they tend to chip due to the inherent property of composite material. Though composite veneers are esthetically pleasing, it can be hard to define micro-esthetic colour variations and replicate natural translucent gradient. Composites are known to lose their adhesion over time, causing them to leak and discolour with age.

Porcelain veneers are made of very thin slices of porcelain that are glazed with a very life-like lustre and appearance. Ceramics reflect light like natural teeth and are stain resistant. Porcelain veneers are cemented to the outside surface of the teeth. For Ceramic veneers, the teeth need to be slightly reduced; otherwise the veneers can be too prominent. Health Precinct has invested in the latest state-of-the-art digital 3D scanner to make an accurate replica and take shades of your teeth. The Scan/ an accurate impression of the prepared teeth is taken and sent to a laboratory to fabricate a digital CAD-CAM veneer for accurate characterization. In complex cases, lab is instructed to hand-fabricate your custom-made veneers. With advances in technology, we now have veneer materials that are 3 to 4 times stronger than the traditional porcelain veneer material. Temporary, plastic veneers may be placed during the fabrication process. The final veneers are then tried on in the mouth and checked for accurate fitting as well as shape and colour. If everyone is happy, the veneers are cemented in place with a strong bonding resin cement and your beautiful smile is complete! Well maintained ceramic veneers are known to last for at least 8-10 years or longer.
Beware of cheap imitations as poorly fitting veneers can cause gum problems, including bleeding, and promote dental decay. They can sometimes also look unsightly and unnatural if not designed and fabricated to the highest standard. A lot of the success of veneers depends on the ability of the dentist to preserve tooth structure and at the same time mimic nature. At the end of treatment, a splint or night guard is often suggested after any veneer treatment to protect the new restorations from tooth grinding at night time.
